Audi has recently confirmed that the vehicles models included on the company’s 2012 R8 Selection Editions that were allotted for the US market has started rolling out this August. This lineup is basically composed of high-end versions of the 2012 Audi R8 and each of these are equipped with a lot of optional as well as exclusive features that are not found on the other R8 variants.
According to the information provided by Audi, the R8 Selection Edition lineup will be composed of several models high-end versions of the R8. One of the most popular models included in this lineup is the base R8 Selection Edition V8. This is powered by a 4.2-liter V-8 engine which is capable of producing up to 430 horsepower.
Aside from its powerful engine, the 2012 Audi R8 Selection Edition V8 is also equipped with a lot of desirable features such as a new set of exterior colors like the Daytona Gray, an exterior diffuser and splitter made of carbon fiber, 19-inch double spoke and 5-arm wheels made of Titanium, black exhaust finishers and grille surround, red brake calipers, and taillights that were also used on the R8 GT.
All of the items mentioned earlier are offered as standard features on the 2012 Audi R8 Selection Edition V8 which is sold at a starting price of $141,950 including the destination charge of $1,250. This figure also includes the $3,000 gas guzzler tax. Given this starting price, the 2012 Audi R8 Selection Edition V8 is about $23,500 more expensive than the base version of the 2012 Audi R8 which is sold at a starting price of $118,450.
In addition to the R8 Selection Edition V8, the high-end lineup also includes the range-topping 2012 Audi R8 Selection Version V10 which is propelled by a 5.2-liter V-10 engine mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or an automatic R-tronic transmission. The V10 engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of up to 525 horsepower.
Since the R8 Selection Edition V10 is considered as the top-of-the-line model in the lineup, this vehicle is loaded with exclusive features such as the Iris white paint treatment in its exterior, 19-inch E-tron wheels with bi-color, a contoured steering wheel, and a driver’s cockpit made of carbon fiber. Given those features, the price of the 2012 Audi R8 Selection Edition V10 is higher than the first model and this is expected to start at $174,850 including the gas guzzler tax and the destination charge.
Audi has also stressed out that the company will only be selling 20 units of the 2012 R8 Selection Edition V8 and 30 units of the 2012 R8 Selection Edition V10.
